//Tommaso is…a few words about who you are //your likes //dislikes

I’m Tommaso Cavallini and I live in a small town near Venice. As a young boy I attended the Antonio Buzzola Conservatory for 5 years, studying clarinet and percussion – but then a heavy tube amp, fender strat and gigs/weed/girls/beer took over … rock and roll! Ten years of punk, noise and even electropop and folk, touring Italy. I stopped gigging when my third kid was born and my family needed me to be around more.

My likes – my family, good books, beer and music of course! I don’t like superficiality

//Approach…tell us how did you get into modular synthesizers and how they changed your way of makin’ sounds.

Well, I discovered synthesis and the use of control voltages when I started using moogerfoogers and frostwave pedals with my guitar. I then bought an old Farfisa synthesizer and used it with the foogers: instant love! My second great love in musical instruments has been the makenoise wogglebug… that bastard forced me to build a small eurorack system. My third and – for the time being – last love is the ciat-lonbarde cocoquantus.

//Splendor Solis…something about your release under the Game of life label.

Splendor Solis is the outcome of two years of work with my eurorack system, which is totally devoted to sampling and mangling external sounds. I use modules like the MakeNoise Phonogene, the Harvestman Tyme Sefary and Doepfer A119 to capture sounds from everything I find interesting, my guitar or bass, field recordings, voices, toys, whatever! and route them into the modular. A natural evolution of this kind of work came a few months ago when I acquired the ciat-lonbarde cocoquantus – a sublime musical-samplebased-instrument. Recently I’ve added a digital oscillator to my modular rig: the Harvestman Piston Honda, I’m mostly using it to process external signals… seems a bad habit!

//Future …Your plans //your to do list.

My new project is a release this winter with Carlo Alfano aka Notfromearth. It was a pleasure to be his guest on Beyond Corners for, and he also helped and supported me a lot while I was working on Splendor Solis. So a couple of days ago I called him and now we’re talking about doing an album together – I’m really excited about this project. I also want to start gigging again soon.

//Self made question…Do yourself a question and give yourself an answer.

Q: Are you happy?

A: Yes I am. I love my family and I feel loved. I have a genuine passion and although I can’t often travel I’ve discovered a great community of passionate people to share this enthusiasm with online. And here we are. Thanks!
